No movie endings for pregnant teenagers
Dorothy Cummings response to Antonia Zerbisias’ recent article appeared in the Toronto Star.
Possibly the reason American comedies don’t talk much about abortion is that abortion is not very funny. It’s messy. It’s tragic. Babies, however, despite the challenges of bringing them up, are very nice. They can even be funny at times. They are also, incidentally, a natural result of young, fertile people having sexual relations. In fact, that is what nature seems to have intended sexual relations for.
If feminists want to shriek, they shouldn’t shriek at young women, real or fictional, who accept the natural results of fecundity. Let them shriek at those who encourage teenage girls to have sex from early ages and make them feel “unnatural” or “unattractive” if they don’t.
